• Grants and Publications

NGRREC℠ has a diverse research program spanning several disciplines from aquatic ecology to forestry to human dimensions of watershed sustainability. Much of this work is supported by competitive grants and often results in peer-reviewed publications and technical reports.

    Reports

Research by NGRREC℠ staff, collaborators and interns has resulted in many peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals, technical reports and contributions to popular media. These scientific publications increase the understanding of big river issues, ecology and sustainability across a range of disciplines, while NGRREC-produced reports are often used by natural resource professionals to make more informed management decisions and improve our riverine ecosystems. Reports and interviews in popular media help to increase the general public’s understanding of big river issues and why these issues matter to their everyday lives.

    Grant-Supported Work

At any point in time, NGRREC℠ has several ongoing grant-supported and contracted research and education projects. Projects range from short technical assistance contracts to multi-year projects and long term monitoring. Access current and past projects below.

    Seed Grants

NGRREC℠ has awarded seed grant funding to several scientists who are conducting research projects complementary to NGRREC’s mission of large river research and education. The selected proposals examine aspects of large river ecology, engineering and human dimensions. This modest grant program is intended to promote research on large rivers and their watersheds, serve as leverage for future project funding and as an incentive to future collaboration with NGRREC℠ and its scientists. These grants are announced on a non-regular cycle.
