8th Annual Water Festival
This year's event is sponsored by the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center, Lewis and Clark Community College, and the Nature Institute.

Location
The Water Festival marks the 8th year for the water festival and will be held September 16, 2010 at the Lewis and Clark Community College.The event is limited to twenty 4th and 5th grade teachers and their students in Callhoun, Greene, Jersey, Macoupin, Madison, Monroe, and Randolph counties. Participating teachers receive curricular support, field training, and classroom enrichment materials.

Teacher Workshop - September 13, 2010 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
The teacher workshop will be held at the Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey, Illinois. The teacher workshop provides participating teachers with materials and ideas to bring water education into the classroom.  Teachers receive:
  • hands-on training in the statewide RiverWatch Discovery program

  • an innovative interdisciplinary approach to water studies

  • reimbursement for substitutes

  • re-certification credits

  • classroom enrichment materials

Water Festival September 16, 2010

The Festival will provide students with a unique opportunity to investigate and explore water use, conservation practices, and environmental problems that threaten our waters. Students use a hands-on approach to build a stronger understanding of water issues that help to encourage future stewardship of their waterways.  Student activities include:

  • Fetch -n- Fish

  • Fishing

  • Interactive games and activities

  • Voyager canoe rides

  • Macroinvertebrate sampling

  • Nature hikes
