The Wings of Spring Migratory Bird Festival Education Committee is pleased to offer, for the fifth year, its free Migratory Bird Festival programming to fourth and fifth grade students from Missouri and Illinois. This year we are expanding our outreach to various sites throughout the St. Louis and metropolitan region. We hope that you might be interested in joining us!

The Wings of Spring Migratory Bird Festival is an educational outreach program offered throughout the region to 4th and 5th grade students, during one of the peak weeks of spring migration-- Saturday May 1, 2010 through Saturday, May 8, 2010.

The festival celebrates the annual migration of hundreds of species of birds along one of the earth’s most significant migratory flyways—the Mississippi River. The National Audubon Society, St. Louis Audubon Society, National Great Rivers Research and Education Center, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have partnered to present this program at no cost to schools in specific parks and nature settings throughout the region (see list below).

Programming will be related to International Migratory Bird Week, and will include activities from the “Flying Wild” curriculum such as the “Migratory Bird Game;” Fill the Bill;” “Feather Activity;” “Bird Olympics;” “Grizzly Gizzard;” and “Make Your Own Bird.”  Programming will start at 9:30 a.m., and last till 1:30 p.m., and will include six activities lasting 30 minutes each, with a total of seven rotations, (counting lunch).  A bird-walk will also be included in the programming.  We anticipate being able to serve approximately 2-4 schools per site, with a maximum of 90-100 kids per site.

Spaces are limited for this four hour program.  Deadline for submission of applications for your classes to participate is March 1, 2010.
