    Decatur, IL - Lake Decatur

Lake Decatur is a reservoir on the Sangamon River. It receives water from the upper Sangamon River watershed, a region highly impacted by intensive agricultural activities associated with the production of corn and soybeans. Monitoring water quality in the lake provides information on the impact of those agricultural practices on surface water quality. It also allows us to evaluate how water chemistry changes as it flows through a large reservoir. A GREON buoy was originally used to monitor water quality in this reservoir, but in 2019, the floating buoy was replaced with a fixed station that monitors water quality year-round.
