    Shelbyville, IL - Lake Shelbyville

Lake Shelbyville is located near the headwaters of the Kaskaskia River and gathers water from an agricultural landscape dominated by corn and soybean production. Scientists from the INHS Kaskaskia Biological Station partnered with NGRREC to help with maintenance and data collection for this site. The GREON buoy in this lake provides information on how row-crop farming practices affect water quality. The data from this buoy can also be compared to the GREON buoys located downstream in Carlyle Lake so that we can determine how two reservoirs working in tandem affect water quality. Furthermore, the USGS has a water quality monitoring station in the lower Kaskaskia River at New Athens that can be compared to all the GREON buoys on the Kaskaskia River.
