GREON Active Locations La Crosse, WI - Mississippi River Main Channel Water quality in the main channel of the Mississippi River varies significantly as it flows southerly through a changing landscape. Data from the GREON buoy at La Crosse provides information about the quality of water in the Upper Mississippi River basin and can also be compared to downstream buoys, such as those at Alton and Willard, Illinois, to assess how water quality changes as other tributaries blend their water with that of the Mississippi. NGRREC has partnered with USGS scientists at the Upper Midwest Environmental Science Center to manage this buoy, which is located at one of their Long Term Resource Monitoring (LTRM) sites.
