Participate in water quality protection

Illinois’ rivers and streams are impacted by human activities and land uses. Stream monitoring offers an opportunity for volunteers to learn about water resources, develop an understanding of the connection between human behavior and watershed health, and become involved in the stewardship of the state’s rivers and streams.

Collect valuable data

It is difficult to make informed decisions about local resources with insufficient data. RiverWatch volunteers provide state scientists and watershed groups with broader data on which to assess the conditions of our streams.

Connect with the environment

Individuals, families, schools and youth groups can all develop a deeper connection with their natural environment by monitoring a special stream.
