Re-Census of Permanent Plots in the
Peruvian Amazon (2004)
A joint project of the Missouri
Botanical Garden Peru Program and the Department of Geography at the
University of Leeds (United Kingdom), this project focuses on the
re-measurement of permanent plots in the Peruvian Amazon, within the
framework of the “Twenty Years of Dynamics in the Forests of Loreto,
Peru” project. In 2005, the researchers were able to measure tree
diameters in 12 permanent plots in the Iquitos area and install two
new plots in the Jenaro Herrera area.

Great Rivers and Rural
Revitalization:
Assessing Economic Development Strategies (2003)
This study examines how small towns
might use the biological and physical resources associated with rivers
to help ensure long-term economic health and survival. The project
asks questions like, “Do small river towns incorporate their unique
physical advantages in making decisions about development?”
Spatio-Emporal Variations in Mercury
and Methylmercury in Great Rivers Tributaries: Influences of Land Use,
Hydrologic and Biogeochemical Factors (2003)
In this study, researches looked at
factors that affect monomethylmercury prorduction mercury export in
watersheds draining into the Illinois and Mississippi rivers as well
as factors that affect the MeHg concentrations in streams of these
watersheds.
Prioritization of Agricultural Land
Retirement for Water-Quality Improvement in the Illinois River (2003)
In an effort to improve water quality
of the Illinois River, this study looks at optimal – or near-optimal –
land retirement patterns that would achieve environmental and social
goals in a cost effective manner. The project also explores the
effectiveness of policies allowing landowners to make voluntary
decisions to adopt conservation practices.
Contaminants of Concern in Illinois
Large River Mussel Populations (2003)
Do levels of contaminants in mussels
from the three-rivers confluence area present a risk to mussel
populations, fish and wildlife consumers of mussels?

Fish Populations and Water Quality in
the Confluence Area (2003-05)
This project allowed for the
continuation of sampling water quality and fish populations in Reach
26 of the upper Mississippi River and the lower Illinois River during
a one-year lapse in funding from the Long Term Resource Monitoring
Program on the Upper Mississippi River.
