Dr. Chick is Director of the Great Rivers Field Station for the Illinois Natural History Survey and an Adjunct Professor at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  He possesses a doctorate degree in Ecology from the University of Georgia and a master’s degree in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences from the University of Florida. 

Dr. Chick’s main research activities focus on:

  • the ecology of large rivers, particularly the Mississippi and Illinois rivers; population dynamics and community level interactions of freshwater fishes
  • early life history stages of fishes
  • general aquatic ecology
  • questions related to how spatial variability in aquatic ecosystems affects population, community and ecosystem dynamics
