Vera is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences. Upon graduating, she worked for the Office of Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn, helping to devise a plan to improve Illinois’ stream monitoring program, RiverWatch, and assisting with various other environmental initiatives.

In addition to her current role as the state RiverWatch Program Coordinator, Vera has also helped plan a successful symposium on Illinois’ Cache River and is currently involved in organizing the 2009 Conference, “Visions of a Sustainable Mississippi River:  Merging Ecological, Economic and Cultural Values.”
