NGRREC Collecting Back-to-School Donations, Now Through Aug. 10

EAST ALTON – The National Great Rivers Research and Education Center is hosting a Back-to-School supplies drive during an upcoming Local Legislator Neighbor Nights event, Tuesday, Aug. 8.

In conjunction with the event, back-to-school items are being collected from now until Thursday, Aug. 10 for the Oasis Women’s Center in Alton.

List of supplies needed:

  • Back packs
  • Lunch boxes
  • Crayola Crayons, 24 count
  • Pencil Box
  • 5-star composition notebooks
  • Eraser(s)
  • Box(es) of Kleenex Facial Tissues
  • Hand Sanitizer, bottle(s)
  • EXPO Dry Erase Markers
  • Elmer’s Glue Stick
  • Headphones
  • Fiskars Scissors
  • Sharpie Highlighters
  • Pocket Folders
  • 3-Ring Binder(s)
  • #2 Pencils
  • Pencil sharpener(s)

“We’re excited to facilitate this school supply drive to ensure children have what they need to be successful at school,” Environmental Educator Erica Doerr said.

NGRREC is dedicated to the study of great river systems and the communities that use them, facilitating the efficient implementation of science into policy and to practice. Founded in 2002 as a collaborative partnership between the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Lewis and Clark Community College, the center aspires to be a leader in scholarly research, education, and outreach related to the interconnectedness of large rivers, their floodplains, watersheds, and their associated communities.
